Directions to the Physics Department, University of Vienna
Arriving in Vienna by Train
• From the west and south:
Buy a ticket for a single ride, which costs € 2.30.
Take the Underground line 6 and stop at Währinger Strasse/Volksoper. Take
the tram (lines 40, 41 or 42, direction Schottentor) and stop at
Nussdorferstrasse/Spitalgasse (or at Sensengasse). From there it is only 5
minute walking.
Alternatively you can also take tram line number 5 (direction Wien Praterstern) directly from Westbahnhof to Spitalgasse/Währinger Strasse. From there it is only 5 minute walking.
• From the east:
Take tram line D and stop at Schottentor. From there take any of the tram
lines 37, 38, 40, 41 or 42 (these lines start at Schottentor, so there is only
one direction you can take) and stop at Spitalgasse/Währinger Straße.
From there you have to walk 5 minutes to get to the department.
Arriving in Vienna by Plane
• Vienna Airport Lines (Bus)
The bus ticket costs € 8.00 + € 2.00 for a single ticket on Vienna public
transport. Get into the bus and get off at Westbahnhof. Then follow the instruction on the previous bullet (arriving by train from the west and south).
• CAT – City Airport Train (16 minutes into town)
The CAT ticket costs € 11.00 (at the time of the purchase you may want to
add € 2.00 to include a single ride ticket on Vienna public transport). Get
into the train and stop at Landstrasse/Wien-Mitte. Then change to the
Underground line U4 in the direction of Heiligenstadt. Get off at
Friedensbrücke, change to tram line number 5 (direction Westbahnhof) or
number 33 (direction Josefstädter Strasse) and stop at Spitalgasse/Währinger Straße. From there it is only 5 minute walking.
• S-Bahn
The ride on the S-Bahn is only € 4.20 and includes the ride from the center
to the department. Take the S-bahn line S7 in direction Wien Floridsdorf. Get
off at Landstrasse/Wien-Mitte. Then follow the instruction on the previous
bullet.
